Liquid Knowledge Soda: Flavor of Revenge

 2014

glass bottle, xantham gum, water, paper back novel, contact paper label

8.5oz bottle (2"sq. x 8"h)

I love reading books, particularly mystery books which can be addictive. Unfortunely I know many yound people who do not like to read books like I do. My concept for this project was to find a different and easier solution to gaining knowledge. So I imaged that if books were digestable they could become addictive and allow the consumer to again the knowledge that is contained in the bottle. These 'soda books' are deconstructed books and were chosen based on the title and subject matter.

Sock Stories

2014

socks, thread, paint, wood

The pages of the book were collected and worn socks, each one has a sewn story or conversation. The cover of the book is a pre-made

dresser that was sanded and painted.

7.5in x 6in x 3.75in

Sock Stories is one of my less serious ideas that snowballed into a serious idea. This book started as a joke from a sitcom called Seinfeld. In one of the episodes of the series the main character, Jerry Seinfeld, complains about having too many missing pairs of socks. He exaggerates and says that the socks probably try to escape from the washing machine when he’s not around. After thinking about that statement I wondered if socks did have lives, what would they say? I wrote some stories and poems about what I thought lost, escaping and aging socks would have to say. The socks that I collected where used by my family, friends and myself. Based on the size, color and deterioration I chose stories that seemed to fit the socks. Some socks were pairs that seemed to hate each other while others wanted to find their way back home.

Water

2015

masa rice paper, decorative paper, frosted mylar, double tack, book board, watercolor, thread

 4" x 12" x 1/2"

This book uses a variation of the accordian fold where the pages are sown on the mountain of the folds.

The book contains a poem that flows through the book.

Have you ever seen water so calm?

So Dark and Beguiling

That the night might be jealous

That the morning may fall in love with it

Inky water what secrets do you hold?

On foggy days and chilled early rains

Engulfed in silent whispers

You must have a deep laugh

for your waves ripple from shore to shore
